Southern Province

Existing from the 19th century, the Southern Province in Sri Lanka borders most of the tranquil coastlines and nature parks of the island. Being the 3rd most populated Province in Sri Lanka; it comprises 2.5 million residents from multi-religious backgrounds. The main towns include Ambalangoda, Galle, Hambantota, Hikkaduwa, Matara, Tangalle and Weligama. Although this region was affected by the devastation day of the tsunami, the Province has been resorted quickly to welcome visitors from everywhere. 

The southern Province covers notable landmarks including Ussangoda, the holy city of Kataragama, Ancient city of Galle, Tissamaharama and Kirinda, Most renowned wildlife reserves Yala and Udawalawe national park.
